When you see on the same poster DJ Q-Bert and RZA vs GZA you’d automatically think of a rap combat between the two MCs with Q-Bert at the turntables. You’d be wrong in this case.

Wu Tan Clan’s RZA and GZA will be fighting for glory, not with their rhyming weapon of choice and on a dancefloor this time but with chess on a 8 by 8 checker board.

A natural step as RZA himself says:

Hip hop and chess have a lot in common. Chess is a game of strategy, a battle and hip hop is a battle.

The goal of the Hip Hop Chess Federation (HHCF) is to find a way to use hip hop as an educational tool. For the creators it was too natural that the next element in the hip hop culture after djing, mcing, breackdancing and grafitti painting was chess.
