Looking for information in the Lego website about the Concept Lab that they have in Barcelona, I learnt a few things about the brand and the process of making the infamous Logo bricks.
The name ‘LEGO’ is an abbreviation of the two Danish words “leg godt”, meaning “play well” and in Latin Lego means together.
There are actually more than 900 million different ways of combining six eight-stud bricks of the same colour.
I also found a nice flash film about the brick manufacturing process (direct link to the swf file) all in pixel-art and of course in isometric perspective. Probably manufacturing is not the best word to describe the process as it is fully automated and you don’t see any humans in the flick taking part in it. A toy made for humans by robots. It makes you think.
At some point in the film captions read:
Because of the dangerous conditions and high precision required, the molding process is almost completely automated.
It sounds like the kind of excuses robots would tell us to take control of the key processes in society. After that it’s the T1000 terminators.
