It is an interesting reflection.

As long as I see, if you buy at ebay for 30 including transporting, you save 15 from the last offer or 10 € from the best offer.
With your extra 15 € you could buy 1 GB extra RAM in another store, so you have:
the clock
1 GB extra RAM

instead of simply the clock.

You're more rich, you have a clock not scratched (assuming you found it on ebay) and the old clock owners have 25 €, the logistics company 5€ and the computer store 10 €.
If you had bought in the store you would have only the clock and the logistics and comp store nothing.

Global world and competition offers the final customer the best price at the best quality.
For sure thinks change faster.
When we start using cars and abandoned the horses as transport method it was slow. Now it is the same but faster, a lot faster.

In general terms the Catalonia's economy increases. The country is richer since have 1 GB more of RAM than before.
But the local seller will have to become more competitive to survive. For example by querying google too in order to know if he buys things expensive or cheap.
This increase of productivity increases the richness of the country, since people buy cheap, so they have more money to spend in other things, and innovation is kept alive.
But also increases the stress if things are not done right, and the effort to be competitive.

You're making a good point here. (I found your post through a link on the P2P Foundation's blog.)

Why are libraries ok and direct sharing of information from computer to computer isn't?

It's the copyright industry associations that are pushing the point with governments, and that is their right. Governments however, should take a detached view. They aren't working only for the copyright holders. As a matter of fact, the users (whom government is also supposed to work for) outnumber the copyright holders, mostly large corporations, by several orders of magnitude.

I believe the point that needs to be stressed is that governments are employed by us - the citizens - and consequently their first duty is to care for our interests. Building libraries was yesterday's response to making culture available to all. Building the internet and keeping it free of blocks is today's method of ensuring culture is available to all.

Simple, but the meme needs to pass into the halls of those who govern...
