AR Augmented reality meets mapping on Bing maps

Impressive demo by Blaise Anguera at TED talks of augmented-reality maps, a blend of Bing Maps and user generated photos glued together with Microsoft’s Photosynth technology.

In simple words: take Google Street View and a gazillion of geolocalized pictures from Flickr (made by people like you and me) and put them all over the place according to their coordinates and orientation.

You get up to date pictures of every imaginable corner of our (digitized) world plus the ability to navigate inside closed spaces which I guess makes Google quite envious.

To experience it you need to download Microsoft Silverlight and head to bing.com/maps.

Here’s a nice link to a Photosynth of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

Animation Video remixes forgotten sounds from analogue cameras

Since the introduction of digital technology the relationship between camera and photographer has altered dramatically. Speed and accessibility have come at the expense of mystery, intimacy and tactility – qualities exclusive to analogue photography. Initially, and in reaction to this cultural atrophy, I composed a piece of music made entirely from sounds that I had recorded from a collection of antique cameras.

Constructed using the digital composition software Reason, this piece carried a strong hip hop feel and seemed to connect past with future technologies. To accompany this track I created a video response that captured traditional, analogue techniques yet also had a strong contemporary theme.

This short film is made entirely with stop motion animation, with over six thousand still photos shot and then edited together. The cameras are literally ‘brought to life’ here, while image composition and lighting is as carefully considered in each video frame as they would be for individual photo shots.

Semiotics Semiotic oxymoron

Seen this sign on a public parking in Barcelona today. I still wonder what the meaning is. 50% off without keys? 50% off with keys?

BTW I’ve always wanted to title a post Semiotic oxymoron.

Piclens: Image viewing plugin for Firefox with a cinematic interface

Via Criterion I discover Piclens, a new plugin for Firefox (Mac & Win) and Safari that allows you to browse images on the web full screen with an advanced cinematic interface. It just blew me away when I fired it up while in my Flickr account.

Heres one of my Flickr sets seen with Piclens.

Once you have it up and running try it with the just created group to save Flickr from Microsoft.

Smashed iPhone touch screen still working (pic)

Here’s my photographer friend Voro Sendra’s iPhone after he dropped it and stepped on it all by bad luck.

Smashed iPhone touch screen still working

The picture looks impressive but the touch screen still works!

Wouldn’t this picture look nice in today’s Steve Jobs Apple Keynote?

This is street magic and not David Blaine’s. Awesome creative photography.

Photo03

I found this amaaaaaazing photographic portfolio of French photographer Denis Darzcaq. No strings no photoshop. Just people defiying the law of gravity for a moment. Don’t try this at home.

When the social elevator is broken you have to know how to bounce. Between the take off and the fall, the man parachuted in the city learns to control his trajectory.

manipulations
