Don’t miss Southpark’s season 12 episode 6 “Over Logging” about the effects of losing your connection to the internet at home. Remember last time your beloved internet provider left you out in the blank and you had to check your Facebook and IM your pals? Well, you get the feeling.

Funny to see that this episode comes out shortly after Soutpark decided to put all their episodes online with no geographic restrictions. You can’t check this episode online yet due to contractual issues but it will be available in June. If you can’t wait, you know the drill.

Incidentally all the browsers featured in the computers in Southpark are Mac OS Safari showing a distressing “You are not connected to the internet message” (The TV station though shows an IE not found page).

Here’s a gem by a band called The Arcade Fire (never heard of them before) in the shape of interactive videoclip for their latest song Neon Bible. It’s a minimalistic piece of interactive animation where the linear structure of the song meets the non-linear interactive medium. A kind of Kraftwerk meets Jonathan Richman.

Imagine James Bond meets Get Smart meets Austin Powers meets The Jetsons meets Gilligans Island meets Elvis meets Tom Jones meets Sin City meets Bikini Bandits meets Martinis meets Chevrolet meets Bewitched meets Space Age meets Tiki Lounge meets Formica meets Stereorama meets Spaceports meets TV Dinners, all in the city of Lost Vegas in the year 2025.

Well this is what Atomic City is, or will be if it ever gets produced. For now this is a project of Markus Rothkranz a Hollywood computer graphics artist (Die Hard and Total Recall) who wants it to be a TV show and, why not, a movie. I don’t know if this will ever be or if it has already been turned down, but the concept and the retro-cool image of the website are awesome.

Don’t miss the trailer and the cast pictures. (with Sean Connery and Tom Jones impersonators included). Didn’t we all think that the future would look like this?

Via atomiccity.net

ATOMIC CITY is a fun high concept family entertainment science fiction television show (and possible movie) set in what we thought the future was going to be like in the fifties and sixties (60s, 60’s, 1950’s, 1960’s), kind of like a live action Jetsons but with a more silly twist like Austin Powers and the Simpsons. For everyone who grew up with shows like Gilligans Island, Get Smart, Bewitched and James Bond, this has that magic innocent charm that shows from the sixties had. Fasten your jetomatic spacebelts baby, because this is designed to be the HOTTEST SHOW UNDER THE SUN! A campy, kitschy show for all ages, this is a worldwide pop culture phenomenon waiting to happen. Tune in your coolarama tv space remote, sit back with a martini and laugh your butt off!

Looking for information in the Lego website about the Concept Lab that they have in Barcelona, I learnt a few things about the brand and the process of making the infamous Logo bricks.

The name ‘LEGO’ is an abbreviation of the two Danish words “leg godt”, meaning “play well” and in Latin Lego means together.

There are actually more than 900 million different ways of combining six eight-stud bricks of the same colour.

I also found a nice flash film about the brick manufacturing process (direct link to the swf file) all in pixel-art and of course in isometric perspective. Probably manufacturing is not the best word to describe the process as it is fully automated and you don’t see any humans in the flick taking part in it. A toy made for humans by robots. It makes you think.

At some point in the film captions read:

Because of the dangerous conditions and high precision required, the molding process is almost completely automated.

It sounds like the kind of excuses robots would tell us to take control of the key processes in society. After that it’s the T1000 terminators.
