Dalí Dali + Disney = Destino

An old project by Dalí and Disney never realized because of financial problems in 1945. This short was released by Disney in 2003 after working on the original Dalí’s storyboard.

Type Come to Rochester: retrofuturistic motion typography

Interesting mix of an old promotional video for the city of Rochester, NY and motion typography overlaid on top. Love the soundtrack and the voice over.

Short movie created by Constant Revest (aka KNST) for the Audi Talents Awards 2010 (Flash website warning).

© Copying is not theft, for dummies

For all those who still don’t know the difference between stealing and copying and still don’t understand how the laws of the digital and the physical world differ. No excuses this time. Cartoons, animation and catchy music that even the dumbest copyright holder can understand.

The purpose of these Minute Memes is to give educators and commentators more tools to help clear the air. Copying is not Theft conveys its simple idea with a catchy tune, clever lyrics, and delightful animation by Nina Paley.

Animation Video remixes forgotten sounds from analogue cameras

Since the introduction of digital technology the relationship between camera and photographer has altered dramatically. Speed and accessibility have come at the expense of mystery, intimacy and tactility – qualities exclusive to analogue photography. Initially, and in reaction to this cultural atrophy, I composed a piece of music made entirely from sounds that I had recorded from a collection of antique cameras.

Constructed using the digital composition software Reason, this piece carried a strong hip hop feel and seemed to connect past with future technologies. To accompany this track I created a video response that captured traditional, analogue techniques yet also had a strong contemporary theme.

This short film is made entirely with stop motion animation, with over six thousand still photos shot and then edited together. The cameras are literally ‘brought to life’ here, while image composition and lighting is as carefully considered in each video frame as they would be for individual photo shots.

No internet in Southpark

Don’t miss Southpark’s season 12 episode 6 “Over Logging” about the effects of losing your connection to the internet at home. Remember last time your beloved internet provider left you out in the blank and you had to check your Facebook and IM your pals? Well, you get the feeling.

Funny to see that this episode comes out shortly after Soutpark decided to put all their episodes online with no geographic restrictions. You can’t check this episode online yet due to contractual issues but it will be available in June. If you can’t wait, you know the drill.

Incidentally all the browsers featured in the computers in Southpark are Mac OS Safari showing a distressing “You are not connected to the internet message” (The TV station though shows an IE not found page).

Web killed the video star. Interactive videoclip by The Arcade Fire

If you know me or followed this blog, you know how critic I am with the (mis)use of flash in the www. But far from being someting evil flash is a great technology if used in the right place.

Here’s a gem by a band called The Arcade Fire (never heard of them before) in the shape of interactive videoclip for their latest song Neon Bible. It’s a minimalistic piece of interactive animation where the linear structure of the song meets the non-linear interactive medium. A kind of Kraftwerk meets Jonathan Richman.

Here’s the video. Don’t miss it.

Great motion typography videoclip from Cuarteto de Nos

Via Smashing Magazine I find this motion typography videoclip from Uruguaian band Cuarteto de Nos. They make use of this technique for their latest song’s video Ya No Sé Que Hacer Conmigo.

Spanish is a bonus as if you happen to understand it you’ll be able to hear/see how the words match the type and the motion graphics.

This video is no doubt a commercial application (rendition?) of some previous motion typography clips such as Pulp Fiction’s What Does Marcellus Wallas Looks Like? or Abbot & Costello’s Who’s On First. For more of the kind search YouTube by Motion Typography.
